- How does a Screen Number work?
A Screen Number gives you your own personal phone number and voicemail. You can create a personalized greeting in your own voice. Any voicemails received will be forwarded to your email address as an .mp3 (unless you choose to use the Call-Forwarding feature whereby you can actually answer calls live on a real phone).
- How much will it cost me for a Screen Number?
For a randomly assigned number and voicemail, the service is FREE! However, you can opt to upgrade to a Premium Screen Number, which allows you to pick any area code you wish, for just $3.95 a month.
- Do I need special software or hardware?
NO! All you need to get a screen number is the internet to sign up and an email address, so that your voicemails can be received. Once you sign up you can check your voicemails from any phone or computer.

-How do I sign up for a screen number?
Visit www.ScreenNumber.com and choose a FREE Screen Number or a PREMIUM Screen Number. Enter your name, email, and choose a password. You don’t need any special hardware or software! (just a valid email address)
-Why should I upgrade to a premium account?
Upgrading to a premium account allows you to choose any area code you want - rather than a randomly assigned area code. It’s only $3.95 a month -- much better than spending $40 to $50 dollars on a new cell phone or a second phone number from the local phone company.
-Why would I have a promo code?
Sorry aboutt the confusion here. This is leftover from when Screen Numbers were $10 and promo codes were available for discounts. Now with Free Screen Numbers and cheap premium Screen Numbers everyone gets the promotion without the code -- but our tech guys couldnt' figure out how to remove that line from the signup page so it's basically just there to confuse people now :)
-I received an email saying my screen number will be deactivated, what do I do?
Forward the email to support@ScreenNumber.com and we'll look into it. And/or you can simply sign up for a new Screen Number.
-How will I know if my account was deactivated?
You will receive an email and your number will not work anymore. Simply log on and sign up for a new number (and/or email support@ScreenNumber.com if you're not sure why it was deactivated)..
Questions about Your Personal Screen Number:
- Can I change my screen number?
Once you sign up for number it can not change unless you cancel it and sign up for a new one. If you prefer a specific area code you can sign up for a new premium Screen Number or upgrade your Free Screen Number to a premium one.
- Can I choose my area code?
Yes and No. If you sign up for a Free Screen Number, your number will be randomly assigned. However, if you choose to purchase a Premium Screen Number (or upgrade your account from Free to Premium) then you can choose your area code.
- How can I call back the person that left me a voicemail and will they see my Screen Number as the caller id?
If Caller ID is available from the person who called you, the email sent to you with the .mp3 voicemail wiill include the phone number that called you. If you don’t want the person to see your number when you call them back, we suggest using the *67 feature (to block your Caller ID) if that service is available on your home or cell phone.
- What do you do if after activating your screen number it doesn't work?
If your Screen Number does not work please contact us: support@ScreenNumber.com.
- What is the "Call-Forwarding" feature all about?
One optional Screen Number service is "Call-Forwarding." If you enter any US Phone number in the "Call-Forwarding" box on your "MyAccount" page (and click "save"), then any calls to your Screen Number will now ring directly to the number you enterred. So you can actually receive calls on your cell phone (or work, home, etc.) without the caller knowing your real number because they dialed your Screen Number and the call was simply call-forwarded to the number you selected.
Call-forwarding costs 5 cents per minute, but you get $1.00 signup credit (20 minutes of free call-forwarding) to test it out and see if you prefer to receive the calls on a real phone (using call-forwarding) or to just send the calls to your Screen Number voicemail (the basic, default setup).

- Can I keep the same phone number if I upgrade to a premium account?
You probably will want to get a new number, since getting a premium number allows you to choose your area code.
- Do I need to use my screen number to keep it active?
Yes and No.
Premium numbers stay active no matter how little you use it (you're paying $3.95 so if you want to save it for months and months until you really need it, go right ahead).
Free Screen Number need to receive at least one call every few months to be kept active.
Questions about Your Voice Mail:
- How do I access my voicemail?
To access your voicemail by phone, call your Screen Number. To change the settings, press the star key when you hear the greeting and enter your password, and then follow the prompts.
To manage your account online, log into the “my account” page at ScreenNumber.com. From here, you can add a number to call forwarding, add call-forwarding minutes, delete old messages, etc.
- How do I record my voicemail greeting?
IMPORTANT: Your default greeting says: The person at extension [your number] is unavailable.
TO CUSTOMIZE YOUR GREETING...
--1-- Dial your Screen Number
--2-- Interrupt the greeting by pressing the star (*) key
--3-- Enter your PASSWORD when prompted (initially the last 4 digits of your number, but you should follow the prompts to change this immediately!)
--4-- Listen to the options and Press 0 For Mailbox Options, then Press 1 To Record Your Unavailable Message.
- How do I know if I have any voicemail messages?
1) Check your email. Voice mail messages are sent to your email as an .mp3 audio file.
2) Call your Screen Number, interupt the greeting with the star (*) key, enter your password, and follow the prompts to check your messages.
3) You can also log in to your account online at ScreenNumber.com to listen to and delete your voice mail messages.
- What are the voicemail menu options?
The voicemail menu options allow you to change your unavailable message, busy message, record your name and manage your voicemails.
- Why am I receiving "voice mailbox is full" message
Well, because your voicemail box is full! Messages will be deleted automatically after thirty days. But, it is a good idea to log in to your account periodically to delete any old messages.
- Why is a busy message needed? If this is just a voicemail would it ever be busy?
If you're super-popular and multiple people are calling your Screen Number at the exact same time.
Questions about My Account:
- What do I do if I can't remember my log in or password?
Simply click on the “Forgot Password” link to receive an email with your password. If you forget your log-in name just use your Screen Number (the actual phone number) as the log-in.
- When I click save to save my call forwarding number nothing happens, why?
Even though the screen doesn’t change, after clicking save, your number is stored for call forwarding. Call your screen number from another phone to test it if you want to be sure. To turn calling forwarding OFF, simply delete the number and click save again.
- Why does my account page show a monetary balance, I thought the service was free?
When you sign up for a Screen Number you automatically receive a FREE sign up credit of $1.00. This is available for you to try our calling forwarding to see how you like it.
- Why did I get a free sign-up credit and what can I use it for?
Your $1.00 balance (or free signup credit) gives you a FREE trial to test out the new call-forwarding feature (sending calls directly to a REAL phone (cell, home, work, etc.). Call-forwarding is a premium service, costing 5 cents per minute, so your $1.00 free signup credit is good for 20 minutes of FREE call-forwarding.
- What do you do if the link sent and the URL sent to verify your account doesn't work?
